Robert L. Grantham is the President and Founder of Reveal-IP.
Robert worked for the patent law firm Nixon & Vanderhye P.C., located in the Washington DC area, for eighteen years before leaving at the beginning of 2009 to start an intellectual property research firm that would have a broadened scope in comparison to a typical IP search firm. Robert was the Search Department, Manager at Nixon and Vanderhye, a firm with forty attorneys. In addition to several administrative tasks, he provided patent searching services to the firm’s lawyers. His work encompassed the full scope of search activities, namely patentability, infringement, validity, right-to-use, accelerated examinations, and due diligence. He worked with a broad range of technologies excluding only chemistry and electrical circuits.
Robert’s academic background is uncommon for this field. He earned an M.A. in Science and Technology Policy from George Washington University in 1988 and a B.A. in International Affairs from the same University in 1984. Practitioners in the IP research field are typically engineers or have scientific backgrounds. He came into the patent field in Jan. of 1989 and was with N&V from 1991 to 2009. His intention in 1991 was to put some technical work on his resume and move on, but because patent research and analysis is mentally interesting, he chose to stay; at both the firm and within the industry.
Robert’s Policy Research training combined with his patent based skills provides a unique combination of talents necessary to facilitate competitive intelligence predicated on technical innovation.
